The Story Behind Venison

Venison.com was created to share our knowledge and passion for deer, antelope, elk, and other wild game, providing trusted information on recipes, hunting, and nutrition since 1993 to help both hunters and home chefs make the most of this healthy, fat-free meat.

Mastodons, deer, antelope, elk, and buffalo were the first large red meats consumed by humans.  They played a foundational role in early diets and survival. The term “venison” originally referred to any wild game meat:  Today, it is most commonly used to describe deer and antelope meat.
